Global Poker Awards 2026 CANCELLED: What Poker Fans Need to Know
Yes, the Global Poker Awards are officially cancelled for 2026. The Global Poker Index (GPI) and The Hendon Mob confirmed this decision on November 13, 2025, announcing that the annual awards ceremony will not happen this year. This means poker fans and players won’t see the traditional awards show that has been a staple of the poker community since 2018, with the only previous break being in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic.
The main reason for the cancellation is that the awards require too many resources from a very small team. According to official statements, GPI and The Hendon Mob operate with just a handful of staff members, and producing the awards ceremony takes away two team members from their regular daily work for nearly two months each year. This huge time commitment has become unsustainable for their lean organization, making it impossible to continue hosting the event while maintaining their other poker ranking services.
Even though the awards ceremony is cancelled, the organizations still plan to honor top poker players in other ways. The GPI Player of the Year award will still be given out to recognize the best performing player, and The Hendon Mob Award will also continue to be presented. Instead of a fancy ceremony with live streaming and celebrity presenters, these honors will likely be delivered directly to the winners by courier, which is a much simpler and more cost-effective approach for the small team.
The Global Poker Awards have been an important part of poker culture for seven years, with the 5th Annual event held in February 2024 at the PokerGO Studio inside ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. That 2024 ceremony featured more than 25 different awards recognizing achievements across the poker world. While the 2026 show is cancelled, the official announcement doesn’t say the awards are gone forever, so there is still hope that the event could return in 2027 or later when the team has more resources available.
